No 24 (14): The policies of the new (and extreme) right wing for public education, resistance and alternatives
In this issue of Intercambio Magazine, we seek to advance our understanding of the right-wing phenomenon in regional education, in which traditional right-wing political formations resistant to change converge with new right-wing movements that have managed to construct an extreme political discourse through the promise of changing everything. This implies recognizing the school as a strategic site for the propagation of reactionary educational proposals, oriented in various directions, such as:
• School and teacher control;
• Limitation or outright removal of educational content related to social justice from classrooms;
• Expansion of educational privatization;
• Cultural assimilationism, etc.
In all these cases, there is a common component: systematically attacking social rights, as well as public goods and services, particularly education. With the aim of addressing this panorama, the current issue of the Intercambio Magazine includes a diverse approach - from different territories and through different voices - to the educational situation of the region, as well as the current educational debate in Portugal.
